Menna Shalaby Is The First Arab Actress Nominee For Emmy Awards

Marking a first-of-its-kind achievement, Mennna Shalaby was just announced among the International Emmy Awards nominees in the Best Performing Actress, for her role in Fi Kol Osbu’ Yowm Goma’a (Every Week Has A Friday), which premiered on Shahid.net in the beginning of 2020.

The International Emmy Award is an award granted by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in recognition of the best television programs initially produced and aired outside the United States. They have been presented annually since 1973, and the academy started to grant awards for acting in 2005, through an award ceremony generally takes place in November in New York City, with the attendance of more than 1200 of the most important people working in the TV industry.

Menna  won many awards throughout her career at regional and international film festivals,  including the Faten Hamama Excellence Award from the 41st edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). The Best Actress Award for her role in the film Nawara (2015) at each of the Annual Film Society Festival For Egyptian Cinema in 2017, Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival, Malmö Arab Film Festival, and the Oran International Arabic Film Festival in 2016. Before that, she received the Best Actress Award for her role in the film Banat West El Balad (2005) at the Egyptian Catholic Center Cinema Festival and Damascus International Film Festival.

Every Week Has A Friday is a Shahid.net first Egyptian production. It is a 10-episode series based on a novel of the same name by Ibrahim Abdel Meguid. In the series, Menna played the role of Leila, whose circumstances drives her to marry a man who suffers from a mental disorder, and live with him inside his isolated house, where a series of terrible crimes happen.

Produced by Mohamamed Hefzy, Amr Slama (Meem Creative Circle,), in collaboration  with (Mamdouh El Sabea’), Every Week Has A Friday is directed by Mohamed Shaker, and stars Menna Shalaby, Asser Yassine, Sawsan Badr, Arfah Abdulrasool, and May Elghety. It features the music of Hesham nazih and the treatment of Eyad Ibrahim, in collaboration with Mohammed Hisham Abia and Sumer Abdelnasser.

Recently, Menna took part in Nemra 2, (Number 2)  and the season 2 of Leih LA (Why?Not) series that were both shown on Shahed and gaining high views.

Moreover, she starred infront of the comedian star Mohammed Henedy, in his latest comedy film Al Ins Wal Nims, directed by Sherif Arafa.

She just finished shooting her latest film Al Garima (The Crime) Starring Ahmed Ezz and directed by Sherif Arafa.

Currently she is shooting Tariq Al Salama (Safe Road) directed by Peter Meme
